Trivia, coming out of your whatever

Hey, all!  Trivia is back on as normal tonight - thanks for your patience.

Today's post is another quickie.

Today is the birthday of the political cartoonist who created the standard images of the Democratic and Republican parties - the donkey and the elephant.  Who was he, and what other iconic image did he popularize?

 Answer IN PERSON, after 7:50.

You Need A Night Without Trivia Like You Need An Iron Rod Through The Skull!

I was looking up items for this week's pre-show questions, and there were a few birthdays of note:

Legendary animation/cartoon master Don Bluth is 79 today.

Tim "Ripper" Owens is 49.

Roald Dahl, described by a BBC article as "an unpleasant man who wrote macabre books," would have turned 100 today, if he had not died in 1990.

And philanthropist and perpetrator of crimes against chocolate, Milton Hershey, was born on this date in 1857.

But here's the most mind blowing fact about this day in history.

On September 13, 1848, one hundred and sixty-eight years ago, a railway building crew in Cavendish, Vermont had an accident while packing black powder for a later detonation.

A 13 pound, 43 inch, tapered iron tamping rod sparked while packing down the power, causing an explosion.

This rocketed the rod upward, through the cheek, mouth, brain and skull of foreman Phineas Gage, landing 25-30 yards away.

He never lost consciousness and even told his doctor "Here is business enough for you."

He lived for 12 years after.

You can hear two goofballs talk about him here.

Tonight's Question:

After the incident, what gauge was Phineas?

Critical Miss! - DON'T Miss Trivia Tonight!

You probably realize I am a nerd.

I am getting ready to run my kids and some family friends through a Dungeons and Dragons campaign.

(Yes, at least partially inspired by Stranger Things. . . )

I've been playing this game for a LOOOOOOONG time, and it has me all sorts of nostalgic.
(You may know that our logo is  from the original Monster Manual entry for goblins.  Or you may not.)

Preparing this post reminded me of all the goofy spells, horrible monsters, and crappy characters I made.

Time's short, so here's today's Q.

In the first edition of AD&D what wizard has a series of handy spells named after him?

Answer IN PERSON, after 7:50.
