Take Out Enough To Win! Tonight @ Franks!

You may recall a certain discussion from last week.

Why is this man smiling?  You might too. . .
I have done a bit of research, and I'd rate the story as "probably tru-ish".
You can click on the link above, and you can  see the relevant citations.

QUIZ: In 1971, the chaps of Monty Python visited Bavaria and filmed two episodes of their programme for German TV, under the title Monty Python's Fliegender Zirkus.  Some sketches were translated their from pre-Python days, such as At Last the 1948 Show, and much was original. What was the only sketch that was taken from a pre-existing BBC Flying Circus episode?

Elephino! Trivia at Frank's - 8pm

In 1962 a group of scientists, led Dr. Louis "Jolly" West, were studying pachydermal mating behavior.

These tried to induce a state of "musth" in one of their subjects - Tusko, a beloved bull elephant from the Oklahoma City Zoo by dosing him with 297 mg of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide.

That's apparently over 1000 times a typical human dose. (That link is a PDF of the published study.)

Wolfram Alpha says the average adult human weighs 140 pounds.

Tusko was estimated to weigh between 6500-7000 pounds. (PDF of the study, again.)

That's 50 times the weight of the average human.

That means they gave the elephant MORE than 200 times the standard human dose.

I won't go into the gory details (you can read the study if you really need to know), but two hours later the elephant was dead.

Dr. West went on to work in the CIA's MKULTRA program.

QUIZ:
What notorious Boston mob boss volunteered to participate in MKULTRA research while in federal prison
