Clash of the Titans Arum!

Corpse flowers are blooming all over the US, and no one is quite sure why.

Many plants have flowers that produce a sweet aroma to attract bees and other insects as pollinators.  The Corpse Flower uses a similar strategy, but with some slightly different tactics.
When the flower blooms it produces a stench that's been described as a
"foul odor — sort of the odor you get from a decaying carcass, roadkill if you will, or that odor you see on the bottom of a dumpster after a hot summer day,"
Instead of attracting bees, or any other usual pollinators, it uses this stink to attract decomposers to do the work instead.

These flowers all seem to have individual bloom cycles - usually up to seven years before their first bloom, and can go a decade or more between blooms.
But now they have synced up.

BUT WHY?!

CHOOSE YOUR OWN PUNCHLINE:
A.  Because of Trump's latest statement!
B.  Because of the Zika and poop in the water at the Olympics!
C.  Because of you, all right?  Because I watched you!
